About Rosemary

My first (official) name is Rosemary, which led me to my interest in medicinal plants as a child when I looked up the meaning of my name and learned that it was a plant with many uses for supporting health. I go by ‘Rosy’ as a first name, and there is a long story behind my last name, but it is Rose.

My Journey into Herbalism

Initially, herbalism was a passion for learning more about the plants that grew around me through foraging and using herbal remedies at home. Then I began to focus on growing them when I spent a year working on the herb field at the Organic Herb Trading Company in 2012. Finally, I trained as a herbalist at the Irish School of Herbal Medicine for four years, which included 600 clinic hours and an in-depth study of herbs, the human body, and vitalism. I graduated with a Licentiate in Herbal Medicine and a diploma in Iridology and Nutrition in 2017, and I am now in my eighth year of working as a herbalist in Fife.

Background in Organic Food & Herbal Growing

My previous background is in organic food production, and I co-established and ran Meadowsweet Organic’s market garden in Falkland, Fife. My herbal business was called The Meadowsweet Herbal Apothecary in connection to the farm, and I grew lots of medicinal herbs for tea blends, wholesale, and my own dispensary.

I still grow herbs and plants, but on a much smaller scale, and I love combining these two worlds of people and plants—connecting people with plants through herbal medicine, education, growing, foraging, and the availability of medicinal plants.

Herbal Medicine & My Own Health Journey

Herbal medicine has hugely helped my own personal health journey over the years and helped me manage or overcome a number of conditions, including eczema, gut dysbiosis, colitis, seasonal hay fever, stress and anxiety, period pain, HPV, and even childbirth!

Expanding into Therapeutic Herbalism

Since graduating as a herbalist, my continued professional journey has led me to value the importance and healing potential of the therapeutic relationship, which led me to study counselling, health coaching, and Compassionate Inquiry. I integrate using plants on an emotional level to understand herbalism as a holistic and person-centred approach to health.

Specialist in Fertility & Maternal Health

My other area of speciality and career development is in the journey through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and post-partum health care, which was inspired by my own journey into motherhood. This passion led me to train as a doula in 2024 and integrate this element into my work.
