Frequently Asked Questions
Appointments & Consultations
Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes please, I work with each person individually to match them with the right herbs which takes time. I’m happy to have a free phone chat/email/message with you first though to make sure that herbal medicine is right for you and to answer any questions you might have before making a booking.
What does a consultation involve?
Once you’ve booked an appointment the initial consultation process takes about 90 minutes. This allows me to ask questions and listen to find out about your current health situation, past medical history, diet and lifestyle and may also include iridology.
What is iridology?
I can also offer iris analysis as part of the consultation at an additional cost. This means looking at the coloured part of your eye (iris), which is completely unique to each person. It helps to add an extra layer of health information about your constitutional strengths and challenges.
If we are working in-person I will look at your eyes with a light/magnifying glass, and for online appointments you will need to send a close up, clear, focused photo of each of your eyes ahead of the appointment.
Do I need to come in person?
I currently offer consultations via video call or in person depending on your situation. If you can manage to come in person for the first appointment then that can be really helpful, but it’s not essential.
Follow up appointments can be done via video or phone call, or in person.
How long does herbal treatment take?
Herbs will start to work in your body as soon as you start to take them, but they may take some time to show results. You may notice a change after 2 weeks, but 1 month allows a more realistic timescale.
I recommend to follow a herbal programme for 3 months initially, and for some more chronic long term conditions 6 months or more may be required.
After an initial consultation I recommend a follow up 3 weeks later and a further appointment 1 month after, and another short appointment around the 3 month mark.
Do we need to talk about my diet and lifestyle?
Yes please, because I am trained as a holistic herbalist and these factors can have a big impact on the effectiveness of the herbs I will supply you with. This is one of the key differences between holistic and conventional health support and helps the results to be more effective, longer lasting and save you money in the long term. I will always work with you to find realistic and manageable goals.
Herbs & Treatments
Can I buy herbs from you without an appointment?
I have some herbal products for sale on my website and I can sell dried loose herbs without an appointment, but for tinctures and individual prescriptions you will need to book an appointment or come into my pop up apothecary shop in Falkland. If you know what herb/s you need or have a recent small health concern, then you could book a ‘short acute consultation’.
Get in touch to find out what will be most suitable for you.
Are herbs safe?
Herbalism has a very long history of traditional use to support it’s safety. Herbalists are trained to be aware of any interactions and contradictions that may occur through use of herbs and I will advise you about this. Having regular appointments also helps to ensure that you’re getting the right herbs and that no adverse effects are happening.
Awareness is required if you are taking medications, pregnant or breastfeeding, but it is still possible for us to work together.
What conditions do you treat?
I do not treat specific health conditions, but I work with each person as an individual because all of our ‘dis-ease’ and symptoms will manifest differently one person to the next even if they have been diagnosed with a similar health condition.
Clients I have worked with previously have had previous self and medical diagnoses including;
- Insomnia
- Anxiety and depression
- CFS/ME
- PMS/PMDD
- Menstrual symptoms and infertility
- Menopausal symptoms
- Digestive symptoms including candida, dysbiosis and IBS
- Asthma and allergies
- Diabetes and high blood pressure
- Autoimmune conditions
- Migraines and headaches
- Pregnancy and birth preparations
Please get in touch to discuss your unique health situation.
Children & Family
Do you work with children?
Yes, I am happy to work with children and infants. The consultation process is much shorter and the herbal dosage is much lower. For infants I may also need to register the mother too if breastfeeding is still happening.
Location & Availability
Where are you based and which area do you serve?
I’m based in Falkland, Fife and my clinic and consultancy room is located above Balgonie Kilts, KY15 7BE on Cross Wynd in Falkland Village.
I work with people within Scotland and it’s quite easy to travel here by car/public transport from Fife, Perth, Dundee and Edinburgh. I can also work via video call online.
Pricing & Payment
How much will my treatment cost? And how do you take payment?
The initial full consultation is £68 and herbs are additional to this and cost around £6-12/week.
The follow up appointments are £34 and herbs are additional to this and cost around £6-12/week.
So, for a full 3 month programme it will cost around £160 for appointments and around £120 for herbs spread out over the months.
I will always try to find the best solution for your budget and please still get in touch if you are on a low income and we can find a way to make it work.
I accept payment by PayPal, card, cash or by bank transfer ahead of the appointment and herbs are usually paid afterwards.
