Holistic Herbalism
This is my main offering as a herbalist, an in-depth, interconnected approach to your health. I’ve chosen not to call it herbal medicine because it works in such a different way to the conventional medicine approach.
What is Holistic Herbalism?
Holistic (wholistic) means ‘relating to the whole of something or to the total system instead of just to its parts’ (Cambridge Dictionary). It means treating you as an interconnected whole person, not just a diagnosis or disease. I think that our health is made up of our mind, body and spirit, and it takes an approach to support all of these to really make a change, which includes preventative healthcare.
Herbalism is described as ‘plants being used to stimulate the body’s natural healing ability and restore balance’ (Cambridge Dictionary).
The Foundations of Holistic Herbalism
My holistic herbalist training included an in-depth study of vitalism and naturopathy, which teaches that we are connected to nature and that dis-ease arises when there is a disconnection from this. This is the opposite of ‘atomism,’ which is the idea that the world is made up of parts like a machine, which can be treated individually and led to the rise of modern healthcare.
I don’t think that herbalism fits that well into the modern ‘medicine’ model because plants and humans are more complex than that, so I have started to use the term holistic herbalism to describe what I offer as a herbalist.
How Holistic Herbalism Works
After 7 years in practice, this is where I see the magic happen! Holistic herbalism approaches mind, body, and spirit support as an in-depth alternative or accompaniment to a more conventional medical approach.

Next Steps
I recommend starting with 3 months initially, which is a realistic amount of time to see improved health changes. This may be enough for some people to stop taking herbs, or they may continue with a reduced prescription that can be reviewed every 3-6 months.
For more long-term chronic conditions, more support may be needed, and we can make an individual plan to suit your goals and budget.
Recommended for ages 18+. I also offer shorter children’s and teenager appointments.
